On the Fox series American Grit, John Cena and a cadre of seasoned veterans of the military’s top branches lead teams of men and women through military and survival-themed obstacles. There are 16 competitors, split into teams of four and led by one of the elite military mentors, including a former Navy SEAL and an Army Ranger. The teams must complete every event together, embodying the “no man left behind” mantra of the U.S. armed forces. The 10-episode series is halfway through its competition, with episode 6 airing Thursday, May 19th.

In the show clip below, exclusive to Muscle & Fitness, John Cena invites the “Green Team” to a friendly weightlifting competition, and it’s no surprise that Cena steals the show with a two-lift total (snatch, clean) of 535 pounds. Following that, the leader of Green Team, Noah Galloway—a purple heart recipient and veteran of the Army’s 101st Airborne division—performed an impressive 20 reps of one-arm snatches with a 60-pound kettlebell. It’s a true demonstration of mental strength, overcoming physical limitations, and embodies of the spirit of the show.

Watch the full episode Thursday, May 19 on Fox, 9/8c.
