Read articleMore often than not, the women of the UFC throw down as much as, if not more than, the men. In the lone female fight of the night on Saturday’s UFC on Fox 15 card, 21-year-old MMA sensation Paige VanZant (4-1, 1-0 UFC) and veteran Felice Herrig (10-5, 1-0 UFC) will look to steal the show.
Both “12 Gauge” and “Lil Bulldog” come into their main card meeting off of successful UFC debuts. VanZant defeated Kallin Curran by third round TKO on November 22 at UFC Fight Night – Edgar vs. Swanson, while Herrig beat Lisa Ellis on The Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale on December 12 via second round armbar. They’re also bringing a load of intensity into their tussle judging from their staredown. Check it out:
Here is the weigh-in from Friday:
VanZant trained for this assignment at the renowned Team Alpha Male camp in Sacramento, California – the same place that UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw and contenders Chad Mendes and Urijah Faber call home. Herrig has been involved in the fight game for over six years and was part of The Ulitmate Fighter 20 show, where she lost to Randa Markos via armbar. It’s this experience advantage that Herrig expects to play a pivotal role in her 115-pound tilt with VanZant. In fact, Lil Bulldog is so confident ahead of her upcoming fight that she told MMAJunkie that VanZant “would have fought Carla (Esparza) and lost.”
“I really believe that any one of those girls in the house would have beat Paige,” Herrig continued. The VanZant/Herrig fight opens the main card on Fox, and it could be explosive.
