The fracture occurred in the second round of the bout and was caused by a flying knee to the skull from his opponent, Michael Page. After the knee, Santos crumpled to the ground holding his head in clear discomfort. “Big John” McCarthy, who refereed the fight, said that the impact “sounded like a baseball being hit out of the park.”
Santos’ ex-wife, Cris Justino, posted a picture of the fractured skull on Instagram.

Joe Rogan who has called thousand of fights with the UFC called this “the worst MMA injury I’ve ever seen.” Page later sent a tweet wishing Santos the best.

After the fight, Page actually made a reference to the very popular app Pokemon-Go by rolling a pokeball towards Santos at the end of the match.
When asked about the injury, Santos told MMA Fighting: “I’ll be back soon.”
