Read articleThursday, October 20th, After-School All-Stars (ASAS), a national non-profit, will be hosting its annual stair-climb fundraiser at 4 World Trade Center to raise support and awareness for its free local programs, which support 1200 inner-city kids in Newark and New York. This is the second year ASAS is hosting this exciting event with 250 climbers expected to take on the challenge.
Participants will climb up 68 floors (1600 steps) and attend an after-party celebration. Super Bowl Champion Steve Weatherford and Fox’s Good Day New York anchor Duke Castiglione will be climbing to the top and participating in the after-party celebration on the 68th floor. The celebration will be hosted by CBS correspondent Max Gomez along with local stakeholders and supporters, including key sponsors such as Mondelez, belVita, Cushman and Wakefield, Cozen O’Connor, Conair, Eat the Bear, Soul Cycle, Double Cross Vodka, Little Wolf Whiskey, Brooklyn Brewery, and WSJ Wine. In addition, climbers will be treated to gifts from ASAS and Eat the Bear, and auction items are provided by Greenspice, L’Oreal, Soul Cycle, Eat the Bear, and Conair.
Regional executive director Dax Devlon-Ross said, “We are thrilled to have New York come out to support our programs for the second year in a row. We are grateful to all our climbers and supporters who are enabling us to serve even more kids, because for every one student in an after-school program, two are waiting to get in and our goal is to continually increase the number of kids we serve, helping them to succeed in school and life. Last year, with support from climbers and generous companies, we raised $100,000 and our partners have stepped up again in a big way. This is going to allow our chapter to make tremendous strides to benefit our kids.”
The Climb for Kids coincides with national after-school advocacy day and will raise funds to ensure that ASAS can continue to offer high-quality, comprehensive after-school programs to Newark and New York students.
