Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner. The voting for Month One of the FLEX Bikini Model Search Online ended yesterday and, after bringing the five competitors with the most votes in front of our expert judging panel, Kyla McGrath was declared the April winner.
The voting, which began on April 1 and ended on the 15th, was extremely close, as more than 15,000 voters weighed in during the two-week period, and a number of competitors had a chance to crack the top five by the time voting ended. In the end, though, McGrath had the highest vote total for the month of April.
In winning the month, McGrath was awarded a $250 prize, along with a $100 gift certificate to Musotica.com, the official stylist for the FLEX Swimsuit and Lingerie issues. In addition, McGrath automatically qualifies for the 15-woman finals at the 2008 FLEX Bikini Model Search in Las Vegas on September 26 and 27 during Olympia Weekend. In Las Vegas, the overall winner will earn a contract with Weider Publications and a spot in the 2009 FLEX Swimsuit issue.
There will be four more winners of the FLEX Bikini Model Search Online between now and the end of the contest, which runs from April until August. Submissions for Month Two are due by the 21st of this month.

NAME: KYLA MCGRATH
AGE: 29
HEIGHT: 5’8″
WEIGHT: 130 pounds
LIVES: Tornoto, Canada
STARTING OUT IN THE FITNESS INDUSTRY: I actually started figure competitions in my province, St. Johns in Newfoundland. We didn’t have figure competitions, and I was told I would have to get 10 girls to compete in the show in order to have the show. So I just walked up to girls in my gym and other gyms and was like, “Hey – you have an awesome body. You should compete.” We had 10 girls enter the show. I placed second.
BRAINS AND BEAUTY: I have a Masters degree in Political Science. I was on the Dean’s List, my GPA was a 3 out of 3. I was always the brain in high school.
PROMOTING: I work for a promotions company now. Before that I was working for governement, research gender equality, with the Department of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development. Government work really boring but in the end you really can making a difference.
FIT FOR LIFE: Fitness is something that will always be a part of my life, whether it?s the main thing I do or something I do on the side. Right now trying to figure out how to reach other people to help them, especially women. I am making a training video for women and doing my own transformation video for women. I want to motivate other people, whatever their goals are.
SELF PROMOTION: Basically to win this contest, I told all of my friends I was running. I told a lot of people on MySpace and told a bunch of friends in the fitness industry to drop by and vote for me if they liked my pictures. So MySpace is the key man!
GIVING THANKS: I would like thank my trainer and best friend, Paul Hartley. He has trained me since my very first show in 2004 and is still my trainer today. Thanks Paul!
