A recent study published on sciencedaily.com suggest that a Mediterranean diet may be the key to long-term health. For those who don’t know, a Mediterranean diet consist mostly of vegetables and fruit, with a limited amount of meat. 

According to sciencedaily.com, “Many studies have confirmed the health benefits of the Mediterranean diet… but there has been little research on whether its benefits can extend to eye disease.” Researchers from the University of Coimbra in Portugal determined the closer participants adhered to a Mediterranean diet the less chance they had of being affected by age-related macular degeneration, a disease which causes blindness  

Based on the research, fruit, caffeine, and antioxidants were all leading elements in a person’s diet that helped protect them from AMD. 

This study goes to show how eating healthy can have much greater benefits then looking physically fit.
