Condoms that make sex feel even better? We know it sounds too good to be true, but according to ScienceAlert this could be the future of contraception. Scientists in Australia claim they are developing ultra-durable condoms that feel better than nothing at all.
The key to the new rubber, currently being developed at the University of Wollongong, is hydrogel, a strong, flexible material that can be made to feel like human tissue.
“Our original idea was just to try to prove that an original material could replace latex,” lead scientist Robert Gorkin told ScienceAlert. Gorkin and his team won grant moneyfrom the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to begin this research back in 2013, which Men’s Fitness reported on. Now the team is partnering with Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia, in order to test just how good the new material really feels.
“If you make them so pleasurable that people can’t wait to put them on, then more people will use them, and we can hopefully stop the spread of disease. It’s as simple as that,” Gorkin told ScienceAlert. It’s also possible the condoms could do things like lubricate themselves or even deliver a dose of Viagra.
