You could get Lyme disease—often mistakenly thought to be spread only by deer ticks—as easily in bed as in the woods, new research shows.

In the study, all females who had it also tested positive for Lyme bacteria in (there’s no easy way to say this) vaginal secretions; about half the semen samples from men with Lyme tested positive as well; and hetero married couples practicing unprotected sex had identical strains. This “strongly suggests that sexual transmission occurs,” says the study’s Peter Mayne, M.B.B.S.
