When they planned the first-ever Mr. Olympia contest in 1965, Joe and Ben Weider were seeking to elevate bodybuilding by staging it in a grand venue and offering substantial prize money. They settled on the modest confines of the Brooklyn Academy of Music, where Larry Scott and his legendary arms won the top prize: $1,000 and the Mr. O crown.
The Olympia is now held in Las Vegas and has evolved into a four-day multi-sport spectacle with a variety of competitive events. This past September the world’s best physiques competed for
$1 million in prize money across seven divisions. From a star-studded red carpet event to a jam-packed Olympia Expo, there was something for all bodybuilding and fitness enthusiasts to enjoy.
