For many wrestling fans, Gail Kim is not your average girl. Not only does she look stunning but she can kick ass too. In fact this Korean-Canadian has quite a wrestling pedigree. Her early trainers include WWE’s Dave ‘Fit’ Finlay, a man renowned for his smash mouth style.As a holder of world titles in WWE and TNA, few get as physical in and out of the ring as Gail, to the point that finding likeminded opponents can be a challenge in itself.”I love to get physical in there, and wrestling with TNA I’ve found the women’s division is so strong. I live to wrestle and I guess it’s in my genes to create an impact, but I also want to prove I’m every bit as good as the guys,” says Gail.

Although Gail has been a model and an actress in her own right, at 5 feet 4 inches tall she often finds other females towering over her in the ring. Many people of Gail’s height and build may have quit before they got going in the larger than life world of wrestling, but this petite powerhouse set very strict goals from the beginning.”When I started out I said to myself that I’d make it in professional wrestling within a year. As it turned out it took me two years, which is still pretty good, but the goal was there and I was working towards it with passion. So my advice is to always think about WHEN and not IF.”

Many readers will know that Gail’s full name is Gail Kim-Irvine. She is married to celebrity chef Robert Irvine and the two tied the knot during an episode of Restaurant: Impossible in 2012.Being wedded to a world renowned chef and having a healthy appetite can bring its own challenges. “I love my food, so portion control is something I have worked on, especially as we get older and get to know more about our metabolisms. Smaller portions are more sensible but whatever I eat, I always eat clean. I’m very much into clean and fresh food.”

Gail gets fired up as she talks us through her approach to training. It’s obvious that she has picked up a wealth of training experience during her pro wrestling career.”I train one body part every day. My sessions are around an hour and I love strength training. It doesn’t matter if I am on the road or not I am always making sure to get that session in. I just find weights fun, and I also like to change it up so that I don’t get bored and my body is constantly working.”

When you’re under pressure to be in shape, to look good on TV, and meet all your travel and media obligations it can be hard to appreciate a balanced life. Gail has managed to find peace through the odd treat and pampering session here and there.”You have to enjoy life and be sensible. My goal is to be athletic not skinny. I want to be healthy. I will have a massage for toning and I’ll have the odd treat here and there. I find it helps to balance things out and it keeps me motivated so that I can give it my all when I’m in the gym or hitting the wrestling ring.”

One of the hardest things for a professional wrestler to come by is rest. Late shows, early flights, and long drives eat into valuable sleeping time. Gail has learned to appreciate rest.”One of the worst things I would always do was to over-train, and it took me a while to realize I was doing it. These days I do appreciate just how important sleep is and sometimes I’ll be on a night out with the girls and I’ll be the first to say that I’m hitting the hay. I know I’ll feel better for it in the long run.”

As Gail prepared to head to the UK in order to find British Wrestling talent for TNA, she told us about the importance of being in ring shape and having the total package of skill and charisma. She also shared her love of lifting.”Of all the aspects of training I do, I have to say lifting is without a shadow of a doubt my favorite. I love to challenge and push myself. I love strength training and I think it should be part of everyone’s workout regimen.”We think Gail Kim will be lifting another pro wrestling world title very soon.
