Everyone’s favorite foul-mouthed, mutated mercenary is back in business—and, based on new photos, he’s going to be more wildly entertaining than ever. That’s right: Deadpool 2 has officially begun filming in Vancouver, and Ryan Reynolds is back in the infamous red mask. And while we haven’t been able to catch a glimpse of a ridiculously jacked Josh Brolin, who will play Cable, we can already tell that Reynolds’ Deadpool will be getting himself into some interesting new scenarios.Based on these images fresh off the Deadpool 2 set, it looks like Deadpool will be crashing (or flying, rather) into a children’s birthday—though we still don’t know exactly why (or how) he ends up there. Take a look and draw your own conclusions. This is one superhero movie franchise that rewards imagination.
After the enormous success of the first Deadpool film, studio executives decided to fast-track Deadpool 2. Fans looking forward to the next film will still have to wait roughly a year, though, as Deadpool 2 has a reported release date of June 1, 2018.
The first Deadpool film is the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time on a global scale, raking in more than $746 million internationally. Given the original film’s incredible success, it’s likely that the second installment will be another box office smash hit.
Just because the first Deadpool was such a huge money-maker doesn’t mean that the next film will go bigger. “I don’t think bigger is better,” Tim Miller, the first film’s director, told ComicBook.com. (He decided to leave the sequel over creative differences with Reynolds.) “You tell a story that’s organic to the character. Deadpool’s world doesn’t mean you have to go bigger. I don’t think the fans of the movie like it because we had big effects.”
The character of Cable, an X-Men original will be played by an increasingly jacked Josh Brolin, will be introduced in the sequel.
Based on the new set photos, it looks like Reynolds is also back in ripped shape to play the foul-mouthed antihero.
